Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be enrolled in or be accepted by an accredited college, university, or vocational education institution (High School Senior w/ proof of college/university acceptance or College Freshman w/proof of college/university matriculation)
  • The Recipient must be a full time student (enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for which academic units are awarded) during the college/university semester for which the scholarship is granted.

 

Application Requirements

             The information below should be provided by October 30th of the current year.

  1. Completed BCMP Scholarship Application Form

  1. Two letters of recommendation (community leader, school leader, and/or teacher/professor)
  2. One copy of official transcript (photocopy of official transcript  is acceptable)

 

Scholarship Recipient Requirements

             Upon selection, the information below should be provided by July 15th of the current year.

  1. One copy of Term Bill
  2. Copy of letter of acceptance from college, university or vocational education institution applicant will attend, or statement explaining acceptance
  3. Copy of current class schedule (if currently enrolled in college/university)
  4. Interviews may be required of scholarship finalists

 

Scholarship Amount

Scholarship award guidelines vary from $500 for community college or vocational education institution per semester to $1000 per semester for a four-year college/university. The Selection Committee will determine the amount to be awarded to each successful applicant based on the Selection Criteria enumerated below.

 

The number of scholarships may vary depending on the amount of scholarship funds available.

Recipients will be awarded in November of the current year. The first portion of the Scholarships will be distributed in the summer preceding the upcoming fall semester. The second portion will be distributed at the end of the fall semester pending the receipt of proof for continuing enrollment.

 

Scholarship Awards

Scholarship awards are to be applied towards tuition, travel fees, books, supplies and/or equipment required for the courses at the educational institution.

 

Screening Committee

A list of applicants will be provided to the Screening Committee prior to review of applications to establish potential conflict of interest issues. Relatives of any applicant will be excused from the Screening Committee process. It is not the intention of the Scholarship Committee to unduly restrict Screening Committee participation.

 

Selection Criteria

  • The Screening Committee will first determine that each application is complete and complies with eligibility requirements.
  • Scholarships will be based on financial need, personal motivation, educational and career goals, and extracurricular activities, as well as the overall quality of the application and the funds available to the Screening Committee for scholarships.

Application Deadlines and Award Dates:

  • It is the intent of the Scholarship Committee to maximize the assistance provided by making financial awards as early as possible in the school year.
  • Fall Award Deadline – October 30
    With award(s) made by August 01 for the fall semester

With award(s) made by December 01 for the spring semester

 

Scholarship Committee

The Department Heads’ Council will annually appoint at least two members to the Scholarship Committee. The FIA Board will appoint one member. The Committee will consist of at least five members who will oversee the application review and award process and the financial management, including fund raising and marketing efforts of the Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Committee shall meet at least once annually to review Scholarship Fund financial statements and the application, eligibility, requirements and screening/selection criteria and processes.

 

Miscellaneous Information

The FIA Board, BCMP Director and executive director reserves the right to use the name and/or photograph of scholarship award recipients in promotional materials designed to increase awareness of the Scholarship Fund, and to soliciting funding or advertise fund raising events for the Scholarship Fund. Each awardee will be recognized at the annual OMR Scholarship Benefit.

By accepting scholarship awards, recipients understand their college, university or vocational education institution may request confirmation of scholarship awards from the Department Heads’ Council in connection with institutional financial aid matters.  FIA Board and Executive Director also reserve the right to cancel or postpone funding due to the availability of scholarship funds.
